Obtaining test results Action Plan

Feedback from patients who completed the questionnaire has shown that the service we provide for them to obtain their test results is not meeting their requirements or expectations.

Some patients (26) do not appear to have been advised of how or when to obtain their results.

17 patients said their results were not available when they contacted us.

Actions:

  • After discussion, it was felt that the current appointment cards for bloodtests could be updated to give the information re the blood test result appointment on one side of the card and details regarding the test result service on the other.
  • It was also thought that using coloured paper or card would mean that the notice would be retained by patients until needed.
  • The card should then be given to every patient making or attending an appointment for a blood test by either reception staff or the nurse/phlebotomist who completes the appointment.
  • Patients should also be advised when to contact the result line to ensure that the results are available.
